Dr Ross undertook clinical observerships in rhinoplasty (including complex and revisional rhinoplasty) in Italy and aesthetic and reconstructive breast surgery in Melbourne prior to attaining further Fellowship training in complex skin cancer and reconstructive microsurgery at Royal Brisbane and Womens’ Hospital.
He completed a PhD in surgical anatomy of the head and neck at the esteemed Jack Brockhoff Plastic Surgery Research Unit, University of Melbourne, headed by world expert and pioneer of microsurgery Prof G. Ian Taylor and supervision of Prof Mark Ashton. Richard has published extensively in high-level peer-reviewed journals, including The Lancet, Medical Journal of Australia, Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery and Aesthetic Plastic Surgery. As an acknowledgment to his research credentials, Dr Ross is an active member of the Australasian Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery Research Network (APRSRN), an invited reviewer for the Journal of Plastic, Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgery, Head and Neck Surgery, BMC Cancer and the Australasian Journal of Plastic Surgery journals and has been an assessor on competitive research grants and presentations.
Richard currently holds Consultant Plastic Surgeon positions at Peninsula Health and Western Health, where he conducts reconstructive and revisional breast surgery and complex facial reconstruction. In addition, he holds a Senior Research Fellow position at Monash University.
